Eurovision fans will be delighted to see the competition return once more, but viewers will notice a familiar face on stage.

This year’s event, radiating from Turin, Italy, was hosted by singer-songwriter Mika with Italian presenter Alessandro Cattelan and Italian singer Laura Pausini.

Who is Mike?

Mika is a British-Lebanese singer-songwriter who rose to fame after releasing her 2007 debut album “Life in Cartoon Motion”.

The 38-year-old is famous in the UK and around the world with his huge hit ‘Grace Kelly’.

The song reached number one in the UK, where it stayed for five weeks in early 2007.

Mika also found success with the following releases “Big Girl (You Are Beautiful)” and “Love Today”.

In the following years, he collaborated with singer Ariana Grande on “Popular Songs” and continued to appear on television.

He was announced as a judge on The X Factor Italy in 2013, becoming the show’s first foreign mentor.

Before that, he worked as a judge on the French version of The Voice.

Why does Mika host Eurovision?

Although he was not born in Italy, Mika has lived in the country since 2013.

His relationship with the country deepened and his popularity was huge in the country.

Speaking to The One Show about his contract to host Eurovision, Mika said: “I learned to speak Italian just because I had this opportunity to go and do The X Factor in Italy.

“I learned in a few months, luckily my Italian is better now, the irony of it all is that I’m going to do Eurovision, the biggest TV show Italy has ever had to put on, and everything is in English.”

Mika may not be the only recognizable face to the British public.

The jury, made up of six music experts from each country, votes individually on the audience’s performances, with jury and audience votes weighted equally in the final results. .

But a strange rule prevented her from participating this year.

Speaking to Radio Times, Sophie revealed her newborn baby saw her come to Turin as a judge.

The hit ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ read: ‘I have a very young baby who is still breastfeeding and they won’t let me bring him.

“I’m pretty sure the baby will be carefree but, you know, I think part of what I love about Eurovision is that it has a lot of rules…he’s not kidding not.”

Sophie also joked that the rule that juries must remain silent during performances would be difficult for her, saying, “I was thinking, ‘I can’t watch Eurovision in silence’.”
