Founded in the Royal College of Music in London in 1994, Its founding members are the Romanian violinist Corina Belcea and the Polish violist Krzysztof Chorzelski, whose artistic background, very different from the rest of the ensemble, brings a more traditional development received by their mentors from the Alban Berg and Amadeus quartets. This spectrum extends to French musicians Axel Schacher (violin) and Antoine Lederlin (cello).
This diversity is reflected in the repertoire of the Belcea Quartet with world premieres, including the string quartet of Mark-Anthony Turnage Twisted Blues with Twisted Ballad in 2010, which go hand in hand with his deep connection to the great works of the Classical and Romantic periods. With an open approach, the quartet always finds its own unique, elegant and refined interpretations of the string repertoire.
The quartet plays regularly in venues around the world, and in Edinburgh festivals and at the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg.
