Featured this week:
Σtella – Up and Away
Σtella / Stella (ex-FeverKids and CHEST) arrives at sub-pop with a solo album, after making a name for herself on the Greek indie scene thanks to a first electro-pop album in 2015. After an already notable style evolution two years ago with The Breakthe singer joins forces this time with the London producer Tom Calvert (a.k.a redinho) for an album influenced by Greek folk-pop songs from the 60s. A disc with obvious charm, alternating melancholic titles and titles dedicated to dance. (Sub-Pop) – to listen
To flash – Love Is Yours
Trio turned duo – Taylor Mulitz and Emma Baker – To flash reinvites itself somewhat with this new album, leaving aside the post-punk influence of the previous LP, Constant Image, released in 2018 to go towards its more Indie Rock US 90’s oriented, but while keeping this pop line that makes their choruses still so catchy. The result of this moult gives a disc of a very appreciable ease and freshness. (Domino/SonyMusic) – to listen
Fresh Pepper – Fresh Pepper
Since we discovered Joseph Shabason within the trio Shabason, Krgovich & Harris in 2020, we are very attentive to the projects of these gentlemen. So here we find the Canadian saxophonist within Fresh Peppera Toronto collective that he leads with his friend Andre Ethier. On the program of this first album, we find jazzy pop songs where it is a question of cooking if we judge by the titles and the cover of the disc. Songs with suave, delicate and romantic atmospheres that will evoke why not Destroy and Brian Ferry. A delight ! (Telephone Explosion Record) – to listen
Phill Reynolds – Laughed at
behind the nickname Phill Reynoldswe find the Italian singer-songwriter Silva Martino Cantele. His new album chronicles the last three days of an American fugitive’s life. A disc between road trip and quest for redemption which is part of the purest Americana/Alt-Country tradition with 11 very beautiful songs, carried by the barely broken voice of its author. Let’s also highlight the quality of the Italian’s guitar playing through compositions that go directly to the heart. (Bronson Recordings) – to listen
The Natural Yogurt Band – Dance The Devil Away
Come on, a bit of Library music with The Natural Yogurt Band. A name behind which we find the enigmatic composer Miles Newboldauthor of five albums to date including two on behalf of BMM Records. A label that we find for this new release with psychedelic jazz-funk rock accents worthy of the best Z series soundtracks of the 60s and 70s. We hear a raw and dirty sound highlighting the organ parts perfectly. , flutes and drums played by this living musician, it seems, among the trees and hills of Derbyshire in England. (BMM Records) – to listen
Snoop Dogg Presents Death Row Summer 2022
The indestructible Snoop Dogg wish us a beautiful summer with an album with small onions. Now owner of the label Death Row Recordsfounded in 1992 by Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, the DOC and Dick Griffey and of which he is one of the most faithful artists, Snoop Dogg decided to salute this acquisition with a compilation. A total of 15 pieces produced in the company of Butch Cassidy & Dogg Pound, Tha Eastsidaz, October London, Raphael Saadiq, & Miguel, Latoiya Williams, etc., with titles that navigate between hip hop, soul, dub, r’n’b, flamenco and trip-hop. Flawless. (Death Row Records) – to listen
Tim Bernardes – Mil Coisas Invisiveis
Head to Brazil to listen to the singer and musician’s new album Tim Bernardes which invites us to discover a thousand invisible things. Absent from the bins since 2017, this jack-of-all-trades, guest on the latest album of Fleet Foxes signs there a love of disc with 15 songs more adorable than the others. We will hear very soft melodies and more than neat arrangements, with guitar, synth, piano, percussion, strings and other instruments. It’s perfect (Psychic Hotline) – to listen
