Music: what did you listen to the most on Christmas Eve?

The song chosen as the anthem by the French football team during the World Cup was the most played on New Year’s Eve in France on Deezer: “Freed from Desire”, by the Italian singer Gala, resounded everywhere and massively .

Originally released more than a quarter of a century ago, this pop and electro title had already been an important hit in 1996 and 1997 in Italy but also in France, Belgium, Spain, Brazil, England… Remixed in 2004 , taken up on stage in France by Lorie then by Emma Daumas, “Freed from Desire” had a third major success at the end of 2022, when it was adopted by the French football team as a festive anthem during the World Cup in Qatar.

Gala’s “Freed from Desire” was not only the most played song on Deezer over the whole of New Year’s Eve (between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.), it also peaked at the top of the chart for songs heard within 20 minutes marking the changeover with 2023 (between 11:45 p.m. and 12:15 a.m.).

In this ranking around the 12 strokes of midnight, we also find Farruko (“Pepas”), Macklemore & Ryan Lewies (“Can’t Hold Us”) and “The Demons of Midnight” from Images.
