ÎleSoniq 2017 – Day 1

It was a diverse first day at îleSoniq as the electronic music festival took place for the fourth year in Montreal, on the same new site as the popular Osheaga last week. The public thus found the stage on the water for very techno music and two others, including one for hip-hop lovers and the main stage which hosted well-known DJs such as Tiësto who closed the first day of the festival.

In a unique, colorful and festive world

To enter ÎleSoniq is to enter the world of unicorns, tutus and costumes of all kinds, sequins and of course visual effects including lights and confetti. All of this makes the festival as pleasing to the eyes as it is to the ears for electronic music lovers who take pleasure in “shuffling”, one of the most popular styles in recent years. The atmosphere on the premises is created as much by the artists as the public and the first day could not have been more festive.

Music for all tastes

On the Neon stage, raised on a dance floor floating on the water, the public was able to appreciate DJs doing techno, including Nymra and Sofisticated, Eekkoo who experienced minor technical difficulties in the afternoon, Eli & Fur , Damian Lazarus and Fur Coat. When darkness fell, Kerri Chandler with a more disco sound drew the crowd in with visual effects that went perfectly with her style of music. Then the evening ended with Claude VonStroke.

From one techno scene to another, the public could enjoy quite different music. It’s quite a contrast when arriving at the center of the site, the rap artists offer a completely different genre, but, strangely, the mix of music and audiences is done quite well. Win and Woo, Medasin, Rezz, Illenium, Big Gigantic, OT Genasis, Desiigner (known for the success Panda)Getter and (the ones that many expected) Migos offered shows all more energetic than each other for hip hop lovers.

The most famous names were obviously found on the huge main stage where there were giant screens, confetti and fireworks in the evening. Among the most notable, Kungs was present with his success This GirlAlan Walker delighted the public with his hits Alone and faded and performed new pieces including Tired and Heading Home. Robin Schulz also drew huge crowds with remixes of popular songs like Sweet Dreams and suga suga as well as his own known pieces including Shed a Light and Sun Goes Down. Louis The Child, Madeon and Afrojack also took place on this stage in front of a large audience.

Processed with VSCO with f2 presetHeadliner Tiësto did not disappoint recent and old fans alike. The global DJ has actually navigated between several styles, going through a bit of trance and slower beats, with techno remixes of popular hits like Mi Gente and Mr Brightsideand ventured into the hardstyle, less appreciated by fans of Tiësto in its early days, but still making the public dance relentlessly. The DJ hasn’t missed out on his own successes like Mammut and ended in a big way with what he himself presented as the classic piece Tiësto, Adagio for Strings. In short, a successful first day under the sun which is rare in this festival season, marked by the magic surrounding the world of electronic music.
