Ålesund, a peninsula in southern Norway. It was there, in a studio built on the beach, that 24-year-old Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll, aka Kygo, recorded his first album, the highly anticipated “Cloud Nine”. In the orange glow of the setting sun, he gives us a magnificent acoustic version of it in concert.
Kygo: a multi-talented musician
Because, as incredible as it may seem, the young prodigy from Bergen, a quiet little town where he has justto buy a house by the sea, don’t just mix or push buttons.
He plays the piano remarkably, and the singers who parade to interpret “Stay” or “Firestone”, his biggest hits, are accompanied by a string quartet. On the beach, a boat is filled to the brim with bottles of beer and soda. And the tables are overflowing with organic sushi. The atmosphere is electric, everyone calls Kygo for a check or a selfie.
And yet, two years ago, he was quietly taking courses in economics and finance at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, without anyone yet knowing how to spell his name. “I always knew that music was my thing, he says later. His remix of Coldplay “Midnight” enchanted Chris Martin, the leader of the English group. And as his idol AviciiKygo, who started playing the piano at the age of 6, began to travel the world to play in the biggest festivals.
