The hour of the European musical high mass has come. This Saturday, May 14, it’s the final of the 66and Eurovision contest, broadcast from 9 p.m. on the France 2 channel. On the stage in Turin, Italy, 25 countries are vying for victory, won in 2021 by Mรฅneskin. For France, the Alvan & Ahez quartet succeeds Barbara Pravi with a song all in Breton entitled “Fulenn”. Which did not seduce, before the competition, the famous bookmakers who would tend to bet on the five artists below. And you, who are you going to vote for?

“Stefania” by Kalush Orchestra (Ukraine)

Formed in 2019, the rap trio Kalush is developing a side project: Kalush Orchestra. Behind this name, three other artists, more specialists in folk music. Thus their common group deploys with “Stefania” a title between tradition and modernity, whose lyrics refer to the maternal figure and the tender memories associated with it. A piece in the form of a tribute that takes on an even stronger dimension given the current political context in Ukraine. Moreover, the forecasts place her as the favorite in the final.

“Space Man” by Sam Ryder (UK)

This year, our neighbors across the Channel have bet to represent them on Sam Ryder, a bearded blond star of TikTok. An artist whose voice and stage presence are reminiscent of a certain Elton John. It is also impossible not to detect a nod to the hit “Rocket Man” when listening to “Space Man”, the British proposal for this Eurovision. An undeniably pop song, with what it takes to be spectacular and motivating, both in terms of the melody and the lyrics. Clearly, an unmissable recipe to capsize the public…

“Brividi” by Mahmood and Blanco (Italy)

The hosts of the ceremony this year have strong representatives in Mahmood, already noticed during Eurovision 2019 where he finished second, and the colt Blanco. An explosive duo โ€“ and not only because we are talking about two interstellar bombs โ€“ which has every chance with “Brividi”, a song exploring the couple and the failings that can tarnish it, from fear of commitment to toxic attitudes . The undeniable chemistry between the two young singers should work in their favor, especially since they are playing at home.

“Hold Me Closer” by Cornelia Jakobs (Sweden)

It is Cornelia Jakobs who defends the flag of Sweden. With her rather serious and punctually scratchy voice which at times reminds us of Sia, the young artist is one of the very pop proposals of the 2022 vintage. What sets her apart is perhaps her stage performance which, despite the play of light rowdy, seems intimate and surprisingly sincere. As for the lyrics, which trace a heartbreaking but respectful break, they should be able to resonate with as many people as possible.

“SloMo” by Chanel (Spain)

Halfway between Latin pop and reggaeton, “SloMo” was originally written for Jennifer Lopez. And you can hear it! But if J-Lo decided to do without this catchy song from the first listen, the young Chanel does him justice. With angry vocals, on the one hand, but above all with a performance on stage guaranteed to make the Turin crowd dance. The Cuban-Spanish singer puts the odds on her side with this title punchyfresh and sexy.
