Before the new adaptation of Hercule Poirot with Daniel Craig, what were the international roles of the heroine of Ten percent? We take stock of the career of the actress, recently highlighted by Les Rencontres du Papotin.
After Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile, a third adaptation of Agatha Christie will begin filming, with a large international cast, including Camille Cottin. The opportunity to recall the actress’s previous international collaborations, and take stock of her upcoming films.
Did you know that his first collaboration with a Hollywood star was Brad Pitt? In 2016, Camille Cottin shared the poster for the feature film Allies with Brad Pitt, her first international experience in cinema, where she played the character of Monique. Signed Robert Zemeckis, the cast of this historical thriller mixing romance and espionage was also quite “frenchy” since Marion Cotillard and Thierry Frémont also appeared in the credits.
A project with Brad Pitt can hide another!
But what we may know less is that Camille Cottin had already rubbed shoulders with Brad Pitt eight years earlier in a Japanese advertisement for the mobile operator SoftBank Mobile. In this spot produced in France by Wes Anderson, inspired by Monsieur Hulot’s Holidays by Jacques Tati, Brad Pitt embodies a tourist dressed all in yellow. In his journey, he notably crosses paths with a group of young women sitting in the grass, whose portrait a painter paints. Among them, a topless Camille Cottin, particularly embarrassed when Brad Pitt takes her picture!
In 2016, in an interview with The Parisian, Camille Cottin told a tasty anecdote that occurred on the set of the film Allies, for which she therefore found Brad Pitt several years after this ad. “When we were on set, I went to see him to talk to him about it. I said, “Remember, we did a commercial together with Wes Anderson?”she explains. “Brad had a hard time remembering it, so I started getting confused, because it’s Brad Pitt after all, and I said, ‘You know, I was topless!’ Anyway…he laughed and I was really ashamed!”
The SoftBank Mobile commercial with Brad Pitt and Camille Cottin:
5 years after Allies, Camille Cottin joined another American production, Stillwater, shot largely on French soil, in this case Marseille. She gave the reply to Matt Damon.
Stillwater, a thriller premiered at Cannes and Deauville, is distantly inspired by the Amanda Knox affair. The feature film directed by Tom McCarthy depicts a man who travels to Marseille to try to exonerate his daughter, sent to prison for a crime she swears not to have committed. (see video interview above)
Then just a few weeks after the release of Stillwater, Camille Cottin gave the reply to Adam Driver and Lady Gaga in House of Gucci and its 5-star cast.
House of Gucci: the shocking true story behind the film with Lady Gaga and Adam Driver
Directed by Ridley Scott, House of Gucci tells the story of the Italian luxury empire through the story of love and hate between the Gucci heir, Maurizio (Adam Driver), and Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga), the woman he married and who would order his murder years later.
Adapted from the non-fiction book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara G Forden, published in 2001, the feature film, like any work of fiction, nevertheless took some liberties with reality.
The international career of Camille Cottin is also played side series. The broadcast of Ten percent on Netflix around the world boosted the international notoriety of the actress, as did the entire cast of the series on the world of agents, initially broadcast on France 2 in France. The series was notably nominated for the BAFTAs last May, throwing a new spotlight on the cast.
Killing Eve season 4: a deadly trailer for the last reunion between Eve and Villanelle
After Ten percent, Camille Cottin was then offered a remarkable role in season 3 and 4 of Killing Eve. And for the wink, remember that Camille Cottin took over the role of Phoebe Waller-Bridge in the French adaptation of Fleabag, named Mouche, for Canal+.
Next international film for Camille Cottin? A new adaptation of an Agatha Christie work by Kenneth Branagh! The Irish filmmaker is preparing to direct a third adaptation of detective novel star Agatha Christie. After The crime of the Orient Express (2017) and Death on the Nile (2022), the director will start filming for Haunting in Venice.
The sequel to the adventures of Hercule Poirot in filming
The film’s international cast was announced earlier this week. Around Camille Cottin, we will find international actors: Kenneth Branagh (in front and behind the camera), Kyle Allen (Rosaline), Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey, Belfast), Tina Fey (30 Rock), Jude Hill (Belfast) , Ali Khan (The Lord of Bombay), Emma Laird (Mayor of Kingstown), Kelly Reilly (Russian Dolls, Yellowstone), Riccardo Scamarcio (Caravaggio) and Michelle Yeoh (Tiger and Dragon).
What will be the plot of the film? In the disaster-stricken Venice of the post-war period, on the eve of All Saints’ Day, a terrifying mystery will mark the return of Hercule Poirot to center stage. In voluntary exile in the Serenissima, Poirot, now retired, reluctantly attends a seance in a disused and supposedly haunted palazzo. When one of the guests is murdered, the famous detective finds himself propelled into a sinister world filled with shadows and secrets…
Presented as a “supernatural thriller” by 20th Century Studios, A Haunting in Venice is inspired by the short story by Agatha Christie The Halloween Crime (also known as Pumpkin Festival and transposed in the City of the Doges). The film is scripted by Michael Green (Logan). Shooting planned near London, in the famous Pinewood studios, and on location in Venice, from the end of October 2022. The film is scheduled for release in 2023.
Soon a film with Helen Mirren
To follow, on the international side, the film Golda with Helen Mirren, already filmed, which should be released soon. Golda follows the episode of the Yom Kippur War in 1973 during which Golda Meir (Helen Mirren, unrecognizable in this role) had to make important decisions regarding the sudden attack launched against Israel by Egypt, Syria and Jordan.
In France, Camille Cottin has just made two French films: Toni, en famille, Nathan Ambrosioni’s second feature, revealed by Les Drapeaux de papier.
Plot: Toni raises her five children alone. A full-time job. She also sings in the evening, in bars, because you have to feed your family well. Tony has talent. She recorded a hit single. But that was 20 years ago. Today, as her two eldest prepare to go to university, Toni wonders: what will she do when all her offspring have left home? At 43, is there still time to take control of your life?
Filming took place in Grasse this summer. She is surrounded by a cast of young actresses and actors including Thomas Gioria (seen in Custody), Léa Lopez, Louise Labèque (Zombi Child, Coma), Oscar Pauleau & Juliane Lepoureau.
Met last May, Camille Cottin told us that she had “had a crush on this scenario“. Very requested, the actress confided to us “try to trust each other” to choose his projects. “I’m not the only one to choose, but I try to trust myself. Before, I wasn’t sure I felt good. What has changed ? I’m learning more to trust my intuition.” To choose, “the collaboration with a director and the character” take precedence for the actress.
Finally, Camille Cottin will be in the credits of L’Empire, a new film by Bruno Dumont, “quite a crazy project“. The pitch? Beneath the exterior of the common life of the inhabitants of a fishing village on the Opal Coast, arises the parallel and epic life of knights of interplanetary empires. Prey to the bloody struggles of these clans at the announcement of the birth of Margat, Prince resurgent, mauve and filthy, Beast of the End of Times, located here on the Coast and child of a separated young couple, in the ordinary way of their condition in a residential district.
And now what about a sequel for Ten percent? A film project is in the pipeline, in any case a long format, to complete the series in the style of Downton Abbey. Camille Cottin was recently the guest of the meetings of the papotin on France 2. The emission is visible by following this link.
