The Puerto Rican performer is the most nominated artist at the 2022 American Music Awards, obtaining eight nominations, including his first for artist of the year. The show produced by Dick Clark Productions and ABC said in a statement Thursday that Bad Bunny would tie Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston for the most awards in a single year if he ends up winning all of his nominated categories.

Beyoncé, Drake and Taylor Swift earned six nominations each, while Adele, Harry Styles and The Weeknd each earned five.
First-time nominees included Jack Hawlow, Latto, and BLACKPINK. On the other hand, Elton John made history for being, according to the program, “the longest-lived artist” in the history of the contest. His first nomination was in 1974.
The award show also boasted the addition of a new category dedicated to the K-Pop genre: Favorite K-Pop Artist.
The American Music Awards will air Sunday, November 20 at 8 pm ET on ABC.
