After Robert Pattinson, Bong Joon-ho’s SF film (Parasite) expands its cast

After Robert Pattinson, the new SF film by the Korean filmmaker continues to expand its cast, with a trio of prestigious actors.

With the coronation of genius Parasite at the Oscars, Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho gained even greater international visibility, despite an already well-stocked filmography in terms of masterpieces, adored by moviegoers. After this triumph, we were therefore entitled to wonder how the director of Memories of Murder was going to be able to bounce back later in his career. And recently, Deadline had announced a collaboration in talks between the Oscar-winning filmmaker and Warner to write and direct the adaptation of Mickey7the new novel by author Edward Ashton, published in February 2022, with Robert Pattinson in the lead role.

A new project which would therefore mark both the return of Bong Joon-ho to SF, after his excellent adaptation of Snowpiercer: The Snowpiercer in 2013, but also that of the actor of The Batmanafter HighLife by Claire Denis in 2018. And if the proposal was already attractive on paper, it becomes even more so with the new information revealed once again by Deadline, who has just shared prestigious new names in the casting of Mickey7.

And the new cast members are…

Indeed, after Pattinson, it is the turn of Mark Ruffalo, the Hulk of avengers from Marvel’s MCU, to join the cast of the SF film, but also Toni Collette, seen recently in the Nightmare Alley by Guillermo Del Toro, and best known for her performances in Sixth Sense and Heredity. Or the young Naomi Ackie, seen in particular in the series The End Of The F***ing World, small axis and Master of Nonebut also in the cinema, in particular in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalkerand soon in the skin of the singer Whitney Houston, for the biopic devoted to the actress of Bodyguard.

A trio of more than promising actors, therefore, between veterans Ruffalo and Collette who have nothing left to prove, and a talented young actress on the rise. As a reminder, Mickey7 is a science fiction tale set in the distant future, in which a human expedition seeks to colonize and terraform an ice world, dubbed Niflheim. The team therefore sends Mickey7 who, as his name suggests, is a clone, considered an expendable element of the crew. And when the latter returns from the dead, after having disappeared during a mission, he discovers that he has been replaced by a Mickey8 who has taken his place in the colony for which he works.

If we know that Robert Pattinson should embody Mickey7, it is not yet known which roles will play Mark Ruffalo, Toni Collette and Naomi Ackie. But we are already expecting an unparalleled direction of actors from the Korean filmmaker.

Knowing that Mark Ruffalo is also rumored to be cast in the lead role of the HBO series Parasite, of which Bong Joon-ho remains producer alongside the director of Vice and Don’t Look Up, Adam McKay, who oversees the whole thing as showrunner. And while waiting for a release date for his SF film, the filmmaker gives more details on the American series here.
