LAYERS: “Singing the blues”: mosaic in all its forms by Elaine M GOODWIN

Friday, May 20, Elaine M GOODWIN had invited all her friends to the inauguration of her new exhibition entitled “Sing the blues”. A feast of colors and above all of artistic research.

In her art gallery located near the church, it was the 6th exhibition of this international artist. After “Idylles en Bourgogne”, “He” and the “She”, “Moroccan Overture”… this year the golds were still present but the blues were dominant. Indeed many works are reminiscent of water, the fountain, the blues: “A blue note”, “Across the blue horizon”, “Blues at midnight”, “The charming fountain”, “Path to light”. ..but also “Golden vines”, “A golden vine”, “O vine! », the gold and the vine each year expressing Elaine’s passion for our Burgundy. Elaine is also the symbol of Franco-English friendship with the presence of many Britons who have chosen our region as their host country.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Elaine
“I must tell you how proud and happy I am at each of your openings and it is again with great pleasure that I have the honor of accompanying you to this magical place for your new and 6th exhibition at Layers. Today, we find ourselves on the theme “Singing the Blues”, on which Elaine makes us vibrate, reveals her sensitivity, her emotion and gives her works an impalpable density. At various times, life is affected by deep loss and suffering, characteristic of human existence. This exhibition meditates on this aspect of life and seeks to provide visual antidotes. Such…the beauty and stillness of a single vine, the luminous energy of a water fountain, the meditative nature of a silent sea are images of light and comfort. Like the musical notes of Blues which fly away on a stave, your works are defined as a sensation, an expressive emotion and lead us into a whirlwind which takes you to the body like the Blues. Memphis, Nashville, Tennessee are the high places of the Blues… our village of Couches, thanks to you, Dear Elaine, is the high place of your art. To take just a few notes from a great success, “I would have liked to be an artist to create beauty and say why I exist”. Well, Dear Elaine, your commitment, your passion goes well beyond these words, I want to pay tribute to your will and to have laid your eyes as a world-renowned artist on our village. All these works represent considerable work and your exhibitions are the perfect example, your friendly and discreet presence testifies to your attachment to this event. It only remains for me to wish you all an excellent time in the company of these magnificent works and perhaps you will find the key that is hidden in each of them. I leave the floor to our hostess. Thank you Elaine. »

“It is a great pleasure to see you all, and to welcome you to my workshop gallery for this very beautiful evening in Couches. It’s been a long time since we had an evening opening, which makes it more pleasant to see you again, thank you for coming. Thank you also dear Emile for your sensitivity and your poetry! This “Singing the Blues” exhibition was not very easy to achieve, the past two years have led to many disturbances in our world affecting our lives. But as you know, my great passion for life and nature was a great comfort in the preparation of this exhibition. In this exhibit, you have a set of mostly blue-colored pieces. All the works exhibited begin with a feeling of sadness, but each person can transform this sadness into another feeling. The pieces called “Liminal” are works that are on the border between the past and the future and by contemplating them they have the capacity to change the state of mind of the one who observes them. Some predominantly blue works offer the possibility of seizing a moment that allows us to overcome the melancholy or the sadness that we can feel in the face of events in the world. The fountain is for me an extraordinary symbol by the water which is in perpetual movement. The rain in Venice was also a source of inspiration for me because it is a symbol of hope. But I never forget our Burgundy with these works representing vines after the desolation of winter. But, from a piece of dead wood, spring brings buds and leaves back to life, it is the symbol that hope always comes after a period of desolation. I thank you for your kind attention and I invite you to share the glass of friendship. »
