Cannes, day 3. Last night was full of emotions and music, before a new day of screenings marked by the first winners of the TikTok prize and its unlikely turnaround.
This day begins at night. Thursday evening, Armageddon Time ends under the ovation of the Louis-Lumière Theater. The cameras turn to its director, James Gray, who thanks, moved. His fim is ringing “as if he had torn out a few pages from a long kept secret diary”, wrote our review. James Gray does not say anything else. “This is my story”, he breathes, his cheeks bathed in tears.
A little later, another Cannes begins to throb. Not everyone comes to the Croisette to watch three films a day, and an interview for the road. There are still the Spritz and the music. This Thursday evening, the Magnum beach welcomes MC Solar, accompanied by Bambi Cruz. The audience warms up before the passage of Kylie Minogue, who nevertheless spends less time singing than talking about her brand of rosé during the afternoon. Music also at the Silencio. Fire! Chatterton raises the temperature at the Gaumont party, and ends his showcase with a nice reminder: red poster, a text by Louis Aragon, already set to music by Léo Ferré. But the most amazing party is undoubtedly that of the film Rodeo. You have to take a shuttle to get there, and you won’t find a five-star villa at the end of the road, but a real garage. Rap atmosphere and beers in large garden bins filled with ice cubes. A real coherence with the film, we salute. Already in the afternoon, the actress had worn a motorcycle breastplate as a dress on the red carpet of the Palace.
The next day, Cannes wakes up to a man who says yes, having said no the night before. Rithy Panh told us that he was resigning from the presidency of the jury of the TikTok short film festival. This Friday, all is forgiven: TikTok has restored the sovereignty of the jury and the Cambodian director is on the page to congratulate young talents of the Chinese platform. The improbable has therefore taken place, and so much the better.
