BTS performed at the 2022 Grammys in an incredible performance that left a mark on the ceremony. Even though they didn’t win an award, they did heat up the stage.
Yet one particular moment broke the internet that night thanks to V.
There was a surprise appearance from American singer Olivia Rodrigo. BTS’s V leaned over to whisper something to him before pulling out a card from behind his hair and throwing it at Jungkook on stage.
Internet users could not recover from this moment between V and Rodrigo. It also inspired many memes as ARMYs tried to figure out what V must have said to him.
In fact, we’re still talking about that viral moment. In an interview with Weverse Magazine, BTS’ V reminisces about the preparations and his feelings during the Grammys performance and his conversation with Olivia Rodrigo.
V confirmed that people asked him a lot about it back then too. While everyone had been so curious about what he said to her, he revealed that he was so nervous about the rest of the choreography that it didn’t matter, and all he had to do for this quick take was not to whisper anything.
“I have been asked a lot about this. I was really nervous there because of the dress choreography. A slight whisper in his ear would probably have sufficed in this situation, but I think I just said “blah blah blah” without saying anything real. Before the moment, I thought I could just show it on my face or set the scene – and I thought I had nothing special to say – so I didn’t say anything special. Olivia Rodrigo knew that was what I was doing too. For a 10 or 15 second take, the performers don’t have to say anything special and can still make it fun. » —V
Myungseok Kang asked how Olivia Rodrigo was finally selected as V’s acting partner. It turned out to be a spontaneous choice from the Recording Academy.

V, a movie lover, revealed his inspiration for the performances.
“I kept thinking about the Now You See Me movies. The way the stage performance went also reminded me of Jason Bourne, but having spoken with Olivia Rodridgo, I thought he was really important to capture the feeling of how they scam people while talking to them in Now You See Me.
I thought maybe I should talk to her casually, and it would be like magic if I could steal her card without her noticing as we talk, and what it would be like if we let’s close our eyes in a fun way. Things like that. » —V
Since V had so many things on his mind with the performance, especially throwing the card at Jungkook, “talking” with Olivia Rodrigo wasn’t his main focus.

V also revealed the struggles he faced while performing in the “Butter” performance. He couldn’t even hear what Olivia Rodrigo was saying because of the ears.
“And it was hard to know exactly what Olivia Rodrigo was saying since I had earbuds in both ears at the time. Honestly, I was so nervous. —V
Despite his nervousness, V has clearly succeeded in his sequence since everyone is still talking about it!
